Deliveries to the USA
The President of the United States announced an Executive Order on 30 July which outlined planned changes to the customs requirements and processes for goods being imported into the USA from 29 August 2025. These changes affect the export of goods to the USA from any country in the world, including the UK.
Removal of duty-free for low value items – until now, items valued at less than $800 could enter the U.S. without you having to pay customs duties. That’s changing and goods, regardless of value, may now be subject to import tariffs (duties).
What duties will apply to goods? Duties will be calculated using the country-specific tariff for the item’s country of origin (where an item was made) and its value.
When do the new services start operating?
The new USA customs requirements are effective from Friday 29 August 2025. In light of the changes to tariffs in the USA, effective August 25, many couriers and postal providers will be suspending services or changing delivery options to the USA.
As of 25/08/2025:
- Royal Mail have suspended existing all services for sending goods to the USA.
- eBay has suspended its Global Shipping Programme (GSP) from the UK to the US, meaning buyers in the US cannot use the GSP to purchase items from UK sellers.
- Etsy has suspended shipping label purchases on Etsy for Australia Post, Canada Post, Evri and Royal Mail for US-bound packages.
There is likely to be a short period between existing services being withdrawn and new services being activated. New Postal Delivered Duties Paid (PDDP) services are expected to be available shortly.
