Most Opalite is an artificial crystal or man-made stone created from glass designed to mimic the appearance Opal, the October birthstone, which is forged organically out of volcanic ash. Natural Opalite does exist, but it is very rare, and occurs in opalized volcanic ash in countries such as Africa and Brazil.

Ordinarily it is translucent or a milky white, but it can appear to be blue or a sky blue when placed against a dark background. A mixture of mineral dolomite and metal, with its special shine and bluish hue, Opalite can be a lovely stone and is known by many names such as Tiffany’s Stone. This is in reference to the famous jewellery store which wraps all products in baby blue wrapping. It’s also called the Ice Cream stone as it has a unique coolness to its appearance, and sometimes is mistakenly called Purple Opal.

Being a synthetic stone, Opalite has quite a different meaning for spirituality compared to other natural stones which are formed within the earth. As with all synthetic stones, one should use Opalite for the more straightforward challenges in life, which is where its purpose shines greatest.

Opalite’s two primary colours, blue and white, come together to form its unique shine. Together they stand for openness, calmness, and purity. Like a calming force against a storm, Opalite is seen as a helpful in passing through trying times by instilling the holder with a sense of peace and self-assurance. The spiritual meanings of Opalite are quick mood boosts, the ability to turn a frown into a smile, and the light of a clear blue sky.

For crystal healers, Opalite is steeped in profound symbolism and is considered to be emblematic of youthful optimism, playfulness and resilience.

Opalite is also said to work well for treating physical ailments including insomnia, nightmares, arrhythmia, and breathing difficulties. It is said to stimulate light-heartedness and ease the burdens felt by, in particular, sufferers of emotional illness and trauma. Opalite helps to clear the mind, reducing fatigue and increasing energy, and as such is an ideal meditation aid.
